AGC’s Build America Award honors PC Construction

Its third consecutive win of the award, PC Construction was recognized for its $93 million portion of the Richland Creek Water Supply Program in Paulding County, Ga.

The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) have honored PC Construction with its Build America Award, its third consecutive win in the past five years. This latest recognition is for the company’s work on the extensive Richland Creek Water Supply Program in Paulding County, Ga.

The Build America awards honor AGC members who build impressive construction projects ranging across the building, highway and transportation, utility infrastructure, and federal and heavy divisions. Honorees excel in the areas of state-of-the-art advancement, innovation, safety, and environmental sensitivity.

PC’s $93 million portion of the Richland Creek Water Supply Program, which began in 2016 and completed in 2020, eliminates Paulding County’s dependence on outside water sources and is designed to meet the water needs of its 168,000 residents for the next 40 years.

This construction management at-risk project featured the addition of a new Etowah River pump station with four 16 million gallons per day (mgd), 1500-HP vertical turbine pumps, as well as a reservoir pump station with three nine-mgd, 400-HP vertical turbine pumps. All pump stations can be controlled remotely from the overall system operation center located at the main water treatment plant.

The new water and wastewater facilities are also designed for significant expansion. Three additional pumps can be added to the reservoir station, and the treatment plant can double its processing capacity — from 18 mgd to 36 mgd — if needed in the future. Infrastructure scalability is a key feature for the metro Atlanta region, which is one of the three fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country. According to the 2020 Census, Atlanta’s 15 percent growth in the last decade has been outpaced only by Dallas and Houston.

“We thank the AGC for recognizing our work in strengthening the nation’s infrastructure,” said PC President / CEO Jay Fayette.

Last month, the company also received a national “Best of the Best” award from Engineering News-Record for its work, in partnership with H.J. Russell & Company, on the City of Atlanta’s $321 million water supply improvements — the project that earned the company an AGC Build America Award in 2021 and six other awards.
