OXNARD, CA, Aug. 11, 2005 -- For decades, Amiad Filtration Systems Inc. has been providing the agricultural market with innovative solutions for water filtration, chief among these are sport turf applications, particularly golf course irrigation.

In July 2005, the company marked completion of one its more prestigious installations: The Venetian Golf & River Club in Bonita Springs, Fla. -- a WCI Community development that's won honors for its environmental engineering from the National Audubon Society (Click here for more).

What makes this property most notable is that unlike other WCI developments, The Venetian Golf & River Club is a "green community". Regulated by the Florida Green Building Coalition, this development must meet many stringent standards, including near-zero tolerance for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and drought tolerant landscaping.

To meet its landscape standards, WCI brought in Amiad Filtration Systems. According to Steve Fournier, Amiad's regional manager for the Southeast, The Venetian's existing pumping system was new, but had been installed without any filtration to provide irrigated water to its resident's homes and golf course.

The Venetian's water source comes from a man-made, retention pond. "The pond had begun maturing back to its natural state," explained Fournier. "As a result, the pond began to accumulate algae, snails and other undesirable organic contaminates. These contaminates were clogging the lawn irrigation/water distribution equipment throughout the community."

To address its needs, Amiad installed two EBS filters. These systems are commonly used among Amiad turf applications for their high flow rate capacity, large filter area, and their automatic, self-cleaning capabilities.

"Since the installation has been completed, The Venetian has greatly reduced the maintenance needs of its irrigation system," Fournier noted. More important, the installation matched the computer-aided design (CAD) system layout almost identically as planned.

Amiad North America (www.amiadusa.com) is an industry-leading manufacturer and supplier of water filtration systems, including manual and automatic, self-cleaning filters, valves and accessories to the irrigation, industrial and municipal markets. The company is based in Oxnard, Calif., with sales and distribution offices located throughout the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

WCI Communities Inc., named America's Best Builder in 2004 by the National Association of Home Builders and Builder Magazine, has been creating amenity-rich, master-planned lifestyle communities since 1946. Florida-based WCI caters to primary, retirement, and second-home buyers in Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The company offers traditional and tower home choices with prices from the mid-$100,000s to more than $10 million and features a wide array of recreational amenities in its communities. In addition to homebuilding, WCI generates revenues from its Prudential Florida WCI Realty Division, its mortgage and title businesses, and its amenities, as well as through land sales and joint ventures. The company currently owns and controls developable land of over 17,000 acres.
