Evoqua to help foster water reclamation efforts in L.A. with microfiltration technology

The Department of Public Works for Los Angeles Sanitation has awarded a contract to Evoqua to supply its microfiltration packaged system as part of the second-phase expansion of the Terminal Island Water Reclamation Plant Advanced Water Treatment Facility in San Pedro.

PITTSBURGH, PA, April 22, 2015 -- In light of California's ongoing drought, the Department of Public Works for Los Angeles Sanitation has awarded a contract to Evoqua Water Technologies, a specialist in water and wastewater treatment products, to supply its microfiltration packaged system as part of the second-phase expansion of the Terminal Island Water Reclamation Plant Advanced Water Treatment Facility (AWTF) in the community of San Pedro, Los Angeles.

The AWTF purifies tertiary effluent to produce purified water for indirect potable reuse (IPR) applications, which is especially important in the face of the ongoing California-wide drought. Terminal Island is the third Los Angeles water reclamation plant to produce reclaimed water for IPR and one of the few plants in the country that produces water using full advanced treatment.

This exceptional quality water will soon be used as a potable water replacement in Los Angeles Harbor-area industrial applications and as a barrier against seawater intrusion. The new Terminal Island expansion is expected to add approximately 8 million gallons per day of filtrate capacity as pretreatment to the reverse osmosis and advanced oxidation process step.

Evoqua will supply its more than 100 years of water solutions expertise as well as its Memcor CP System utilizing next-generation hollow fiber membrane technology that allows operators more flexibility and simplified cleaning procedures, saving the Bureau of Sanitation capital on cleaning material costs every year.
