The 165,000 m3/day Mundaring Water Treatment Plant costing AUS$300 million has been officially opened this week in Western Australia.
Helena Water – a consortium comprising Spanish firm ACCIONA Agua, Trility (a Mitsubishi Corporation subsidiary) and an investment fund of Lloyds Bank - was selected to design, build and operate the plant in the Perth area under a 35 year concession.
The project is the first Public-private Partnership (PPP) water project of its kind in Western Australia and it will be the first project for ACCIONA in the state.
Its initial capacity will be 165,000 m3/day but it has a maximum capacity of 240,000 m3/day.
Treatment facilities will include pre-treatment, filtration, chlorination, stablisation and fluoridation.
The Mundaring plant will become the main source of drinking water for 100,000 people and will also supply Western Australia's Goldfield and Agricultural Water System.
In addition to this plant, ACCIONA Agua is a partner in AdelaideAqua, the consortium that built a desalination plant that has been in operation in Adelaide, South Australia, since December 2012.
