MINNEAPOLIS, MN, March 10, 2010 -- Dow Water & Process Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and a leading global supplier of advanced technologies for purification and separation processes that make water safer, cleaner and more available, announced today that the Company's ADSORBSIA™ titanium-based media has been selected by Pureflow Filtration Division to remedy the antimony contaminant in the resort town of Alta, Utah.

"The adsorption technology from Dow Water & Process Solutions is critical to the long-term success of this project," said Archie MacDonald, vice president, Pureflow Filtration Division. "After one year of pilot work and three months in operation, the expertise and product provided by Dow has helped the plant exceed expectations in the perspective of our firm, the city and state officials."

Alta obtains its water from the Bay City Tunnel, an old mine shaft near the Emma Mine. The water is technically owned by the Salt Lake City Corporation, but the Town of Alta treats and distributes it. The Town of Alta maintains a permanent population of fewer than 400 residents, but hosts approximately 400,000 ski visitors annually.

"We're interested in protecting long-term residents, especially children, and providing clean drinking water for all of the visitors to our area," said Keith Hanson, water system manager, for the Town of Alta. "ADSORBSIA offers us an affordable, easy-to-operate approach for meeting the human health and safety requirements for safe drinking water."

The area's Antimony Treatment Plant was opened in September 2009. The facility's construction was driven by the Environmental Protection Agency's policy which requires six parts per billion of antimony or less in all public water systems. Prior to the opening of the treatment plant, there was approximately 13 parts antimony in every billion parts of water in Alta.

"We're thrilled with the results we're seeing in the Pureflow installation," said Fred Vance, senior application development specialist for Dow Water & Process Solutions. "This is a shining example of partnering closely with our customer to deliver a complete solution to Alta, which meets all of their needs. Using our best-in-class quality and high-performing product enables them to increase efficiency and control costs with a system which is simple to operate and enables their commitment to safety in all aspects of water delivery."
