National civil engineering society names 2005 honorary members

In honor of extraordinary engineering achievements, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will induct eight distinguished civil engineers into the ranks of its honorary membership on Friday, Oct. 28, at its annual Civil Engineering Conference in Los Angeles. ASCE's highest accolade, active honorary membership is comprised of only 183 of its 137,000 members worldwide....

RESTON, VA, Sept. 8, 2005 -- In honor of their extraordinary achievements and engineering eminence, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will induct eight distinguished civil engineers into the ranks of its honorary membership on Friday, Oct. 28, at its annual Civil Engineering Conference in Los Angeles. The Society's highest accolade, active honorary membership is comprised of only 183 of its 137,000 members worldwide.

Those being inducted are:

• Hojjat Adeli, Ph.D., Hon.M.ASCE, the Abba G. Lichtenstein professor of civil engineering at The Ohio State University, for his pioneering contributions to computing in civil engineering and his leadership in advancing the use of computing and information technologies in numerous engineering disciplines. • Richard O. Anderson, P.E., Hon.M.ASCE, principal engineer with SOMAT Engineering, Inc.
