Neptune Helps Water Utilities Plan for Drought, Long-Term Water Efficiency

Aug. 6, 2015

TALLASSEE, ALABAMA – August 4, 2015 – As drought conditions deepen in states west of the Rocky Mountains, Neptune Technology Group continues to provide its water utility customers in drought-stricken communities with metering innovations that focus on long-term water efficiency.

Instead of rushing into or relying on emergency responses, these Neptune utility customers have been able to apply existing automatic meter reading (AMR) or advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems that, in many cases, they’ve already been using for several years.

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking a visionary Executive Director. The District is an award-winning wastewater agency which has been a leader in protecting the Chicago area water environment for over a 120 years. As an example, the core technology behind Neptune’s E-Coder® solid state absolute encoder – allowing for eight-digit meter reading, resolution down to 1/10th of a gallon, and flags for leaks, tamper events, and reverse flows – has remained basically unchanged for more than a decade. However, Neptune has continued to develop innovations in the years since that leverage that field-proven technology.

Today, water utilities using Neptune’s AMR and AMI Systems have a robust set of tools to choose from to boost water efficiency. They can pair the R900® Belt Clip Transceiver with an Android device running the NGO app to collect historical usage information, and then present graphs on the spot that detail hourly water consumption for a homeowner. The MRX920 mobile data collector helps accelerate the collection of metering data. The R900 Gateway® allows for automatic, fixed network collection of data for advanced analytics at the utility office – including the ability to capture Non-Revenue Water in the distribution system.

Utilities in states such as California are using their Neptune Systems to meet the most recent and strictest mandates and regulations on reducing water usage and loss. And even if those regulations become more stringent, Neptune utility customers will already have the tools in place for compliance, plus the ability to seamlessly expand on that metering technology without having to replace the assets they already have in the field.

“By offering utilities advanced, data-driven AMR/AMI tools, we’re helping them to be proactive instead of reactive,” said Neptune President Chuck DiLaura. “That includes during the current drought and beyond. We provide field-tested solutions for water efficiency that our customers know they can count on. And with the ability to migrate technology whenever they choose, without stranding assets – that allows them to be confident in their plans for the future, drought or no drought.”
