The setup for Smart Ops is straightforward, always benefitting the customer, and consistent with Sedaru’s approach to maximize the data available at utilities today. Utilities can benefit from Smart Ops with a GIS and SCADA system (and/or pressure or flow sensors) alone, utilizing Smart Ops as a dynamic mapping, monitoring, and response environment, with SCADA trending and real-time alerts enabling Sedaru-based work orders in response to an operational event. With the hydraulic model, Smart Ops provides real time insights into operations, providing calculated values for pressures and velocities for any pipe in the system. It also allows operators to perform predictive simulations within an interface that is intuitive to the operator experience. With a Smart Ops simulation, an operator can propose a change to the system (turn a pump off, close a pipe, change a PRV setting, apply an emergency fire demand, etc.) and determine the impact and overall effect on system operations, hours into the future. The impacts of operational changes are presented in the familiar, easy-to-understand Sedaru interface and easily communicates to management for consideration and approval. Sedaru Smart Ops simulations also provide full energy and cost impacts for system changes, making it the industry’s only energy optimization tool empowering the control room for smarter decision making.
Sedaru Smart Ops is being deployed to water utilities across the United States, including the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA), which delivers 45 MGD across 37 service areas (pressure zones), to a population of approximately 430,000 in over a dozen Connecticut cities and towns. Tony Delvecchio, RWA’s Distribution & Operations Director shared “The Sedaru software is intuitive enough for our operators, and powerful enough to help improve our bottom line.”
“Creating a real-time data access and simulation tool was no small feat, with sophistication required in the Smart Ops backend to address strict IT and security requirements, while still delivering an elegant front-end user experience, for the utility end user,” said Sree Sreedhar, IDModeling’s CTO, “We’re proud and extremely excited to deploy this groundbreaking tool, that not only meets IT requirements, but addresses a significant business case for utility operators and engineers to see both facilities and the distribution system with real-time and predictive insights to empower solutions for the historic challenges facing water utilities in the 21st century”.
