The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) has selected Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to design the rehabilitation of the supply main for its Weston Aqueduct.

The project entails rehabilitation of 40,000 feet of pipe and routing analysis of an additional 5,000 feet of new connecting main. The sections involved are an integral part of the service to Boston, Watertown, Medford and Somerville. All are cast iron pipes, some of which are over 100 years old.

Planning for the rehabilitation program will involve a comprehensive field evaluation to determine the pipeline condition and allow for the development of the most appropriate renovation/ replacement plan. The rehabilitation will use the most appropriate technology to insure cost-effective results while minimizing community disruption during construction. PB will work closely with MWRA to implement a community outreach effort during the early stages of the project.

Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2002 with completion slated for 2007.
