Onsite Energy Firm Targets Wastewater Market
FuelCell Energy Inc. has signed an agreement with MWH Energy Solutions Inc. to distribute ultra-low emission Direct Fuel CellRegistered (DFC) power plants in municipal and utility support applications. Initial focus will be on wastewater treatment facilities throughout the United States.
FuelCell Energy will be delivering a 1-megawatt DFC plant later this year to run on municipal wastewater digester gas in King County, WA, through a partnership with the county and the Environmental Protection Agency.
According to the company, there are more than 500 municipal wastewater treatment plants in the United States with anaerobic digesters capable of providing methane to fuel DFC power plants of 250 kilowatts or larger.
MWH, formerly known as Montgomery Watson Harza, is active in both the power generation and wastewater treatment markets. The company has experience with large-scale power generation and integration of on-site generation to wastewater treatment facilities.
