Vortechnics, Inc. has been awarded a grant of nearly $200,000 from the Maine Technology Institute to develop a screening system to remove debris such as trash and organic matter from stormwater runoff.
Vortechnics' patented Vortechs System uses a swirling action and flow controls to capture sediment and oily pollutants from stormwater. This grant of up to $199,087 will allow the company to further develop technologies to treat stormwater. To meet new, tougher federal regulations, systems will be required to remove particles 5 mm or larger from stormwater before it is allowed to flow into surface water, such as rivers, lakes and ponds.
