LNR Industries has begun marketing the A-Clamp, a mechanical device that firmly secures the riser/cleanout pipe to the lateral sewer line. Due to powerful hydrostatic ground forces caused by the freeze-thaw cycle in colder climates, these riser/cleanouts can pull out of the lateral hookup. The clamp is made of rubber-coated steel. The fastening hardware is stainless steel. The inner ribbed surface of the upper unit is specially designed to engage the SDR 35 PVC vent pipe without harming it, thus eliminating upward lift. The clamp can be used on new installations as well as rehabilitation work. It is designed for use with cast iron traps and SDR 35 PVC T or Y hookups both 4 in. and 6 in.

Belt filter press

The J-Belt belt filter press from USFilter Dewatering Systems uses a horizontal gravity section, an adjustable wedge section and a high-pressure section to turn liquid sludge into a truckable filter cake. The press dewaters biosolids from wastewater treatment plants or alum or lime sludges from water treatment plants. A hot dip galvanized frame and stainless steel or non-ferrous wetted parts prevent corrosion. A large floc box minimizes turbulence on fragile biosolids, reducing polymer consumption. A floating plow design automatically maintains contact with the belt without causing excessive wear.

Ultrasonic flow measurement

GLI's Model U53 uses ultrasonic sensor technology to provide open channel flow and depth measurements. The system automatically calculates flow using either pre-programmed or custom user-defined flow structure tables. It uses a menu-driven structure to help guide the user through operation sequences. Flow measurements can be viewed directly on the display, or output to a chart recorder, data logger, or remote SCADA system via the two current outputs. Four user-configurable relays allow links to be made with external equipment for total site and process control. The monitor is ideal for flow and depth control in a variety of open channel applications including monitoring of storm water, inlet flow, final effluent and activated sludge.

Grease removal

Novozymes Biologicals has introduced a new, patent-pending technology for grease removal. Targeting maintenance of municipal collection systems and improved degradation efficiency of wastes containing fats, oils, and greases (FOG), this technology comprises a microbe that breaks down the most difficult-to-degrade components of grease, the long chain fatty acids. It also degrades the volatile fatty acids that cause malodors. The product is based on a new bacterial isolate, BioStrademark 3112. In field tests on lift stations, this technology has demonstrated a visible difference in the elimination of grease build-ups in trial periods shorter than one month.

The MTS Jet Aeration Systems are available with a flushout system, eliminating the requirement of basin drainage or aerator retrieval throughout the expected service life. Flushouts are used to unclog plugged aeration nozzles. The principle of operation is similar to that of an airlift pump and results in a powerful reverse flow through the jets, exiting a riser pipe attached to the liquid manifold. A typical flushout operation takes only five minutes and one person to perform. The system can be set up for automation or remote actuation if required. The company also provides a variety of products for use in filtration, liquid-solid separations as well as water and wastewater treatment systems.
