ADS® Environmental Services, which specializes in wastewater flow monitoring and Underground Intelligence®, is now making its full inventory of flow monitoring technology and field services, which include flow monitors, rain gauges, software, web-hosted systems, SSES and other related field services, available for purchase or lease to all users of flow monitoring and flow monitoring data. Since ADS has always been the primary user of its own monitoring equipment, the monitors have been, and will continue to be, designed with the user in mind. ADS has the only Doppler flow monitors that have been verified by EPA’s Environmental Technology Verification Program (ETV) for accuracy, ensuring its customers that plus or minus 5% accuracy is achievable.

The Downstream Defender® by Hydro International is a hydrodynamic vortex separator designed to provide greater pollutant removal of sediment, floatables, and associated pollutants from stormwater runoff, while preventing washout of trapped pollutants even under extreme surcharge conditions. Stormwater is introduced tangentially into the side of the vessel, initially spiraling around the perimeter. Oil and floatables rise to the water surface and are trapped in the outer annular space. As the flow continues to rotate about the vertical axis, and travel downwards, low energy vortex motion directs sediment toward the center into an isolated storage zone at the base of the vessel. Internal components at the base protect stored sediments and direct the flow up through the inner annular space.
A new factory-engineered blower package, designed to operate 8,000 hours or more between scheduled maintenance, has been introduced by Dresser Roots. The EasyAir™ 8000 is a compact, pre-assembled, skid-mounted blower unit with all piping, valves, and instrumentation in place. Produced for both vacuum and pressure applications, the new package features a powder-coated noise enclosure for durability and quiet operation plus easy access for service/maintenance. The package is available with a wide range of optional equipment and can be specifically designed to meet exact customer requirements.
USFilter has introduced a new pre-assembled dewatering package - the Centrapac™ centrifuge dewatering system. To create the package, USFilter mounted its Centramax™ centrifuge on a skid with a scroll drive unit, feed pump, flowmeter, discharge screw conveyor, polymer system and a PLC control system. All piped and wired, from feed pump to cake transfer, the system is pre-engineered and ready to go, with minimal on-site installation requirements.

Point level switch
Ametek Drexelbrook has added the TF-100 Series Vibration Technology Point Level Switch to its line of level measurement products. The TF-100 Series tuning fork provides a no-calibration solution to point level measurement of clean liquids and is available with relay, current, or PNP outputs. The compact 316L stainless steel sensor is offered in both standard and sanitary versions. Typical applications include high- and low-level indication, overfill prevention, and pump “run dry” protection. The unit is inserted into a vessel so that the sensing element is positioned at the desired high- or low-level indication point. When the material level reaches a predetermined point on the sensing element, it causes a change in status in the electronic unit, resulting in an alarm output that can be used to operate alarms, annunciators, valves, or other controls or indicators.

MIOX is a viable method for controlling biofilm. Mixed oxidants generated on-site through the use of salt, water, and an electrolytic cell clearly exhibit the ability to remove biofilm and prevent regrowth, unlike traditional chlorination technologies. Inono Hot Springs in Akita, Japan, experienced extensive biofilm growth in their pipelines and positive coliform and Legionella hits while using sodium hypochlorite for disinfection. Conversion to mixed oxidants not only eliminated the biofilm, but also reduced the required chlorine dosage by 60% to only 0.6 mg/l.

Vactor® Manufacturing now offers two new solutions for catch-basin cleaning: a telescopic and extendable 5x5 boom and an extendable Catch Basin nozzle. The new 5x5 boom, optional on the Vactor 2100 Series, telescopes outward five feet along with an additional five feet of vertical movement. With no need to tear down and set up pipes between every catch basin, the combination of the new boom and the CB nozzle increases the efficiency of the 2100 Series. The new Catch Basin nozzle is designed to fit a standard 8" vacuum system and consists of an aluminum pipe nestled inside a flexible section of hose.

Using the Arthur Respirometer and the company’s proprietary toxicity/treatability test methods, it can be determined within minutes whether or not a suspect sample can be safely treated in a particular biological wastewater treatment plant. Advantages include fast turnaround time in obtaining test results and being able to eliminate the expense of contracting for outside testing services. Using a plant’s own microorganisms, the tests will establish the highest concentration of sample to mixed liquor that will not harm the microorganisms.
