Power-Gen International 2000, the nation's largest conference and exhibition for the electric power industry, will for the first time this year feature a Water Pavilion for water equipment manufacturers targeting the power industry.
The annual event also will include an extensive exhibit and conference sessions dealing with on-site power generation and "distributed generation" technologies including engine generators, microturbines and fuel-cell technologies.
Power-Gen, set for Nov. 14-16, is expected to draw more than 15,000 electric power professionals from 75 countries to Orlando, Fla. The conference will feature 57 sessions spread across 11 subject tracks. It will also include a number of "Megasessions" which provide in-depth discussions of critical electric power industry topics from top experts. Topics include The Next Generation of Gas Turbine Technology; Power Generation and Critical Infrastructure Security Issues, and The Future of Coal Fired Generation.
While geared to the power industry, conference sessions of potential interest to the water industry include the state of distributed generation and its related technologies. Utilities interested in on-site power generation will find most of the larger companies targeting that market, including Caterpillar, Waukesha Engines, and others.
Electric power utilities are major consumers of water, primarily for boiler feed water and cooling water systems. Most provide advanced treatment for their water, and use many of the same systems as municipal water utilities, including pumps, valves, piping, filters and chemical treatment systems.
