Chlorine containment

TGO Technologies has developed a simple containment system for chlorine gas cylinders. The company's Chlortainer allows water and wastewater treatment facilities to process gas chlorine from a cylinder that is totally sealed within a vessel, insuring no release of chlorine. The vessel is designed to withstand the maximum anticipated pressure of release created by a failed cylinder. The containment systems are available to accommodate 150 pound and one-ton cylinders. The process piping from the vessels are outfitted with a "fail-safe" valve preventing exposure to the operator or atmosphere thereby complying with Article 80 of the Uniform Fire Code. The system eliminates the need for hazardous waste disposal and on-site caustic scrubbing systems. Installation is easy. The vessel is lifted into position by a forklift and bolted into place. The system releases absolutely no toxic gas, will shut down automatically during a seismic event, and does not rely upon multiple mechanical devices to function.

Remote monitoring/control

TX Technology introduces its family of Remote Monitoring and Control Systems from the 911 Sentinel. Submerged UV system

The LPX200 submerged UV system from Suntec Environmental was designed with the wastewater treatment plant operator in mind. The company's lamp technology disinfects more wastewater than traditional low pressure, high output lamp designs. Space requirements are reduced and lower quality effluent can be treated. The system's ballasts are "cooled by configuration," with no additional cooling systems, cabinets, or buildings required to support the operation of the ballasts. Automatic cleaning offers convenience and lower maintenance costs. UV lamp output follows changes in effluent quality and flow rate. Pipe supports

Standon Pipe Supports from Material Resources are manufactured in a variety of styles. The Model S89 Flange Support is a patented design used exclusively with flanged pipe, fittings, and valves. The Model S92 is a pipe saddle support featuring a 170° cradle, with an inside diameter sized for ductile iron. Also offered is a clamp version Model C92 which offers full circle retention. Existing installations that require support replacement without disturbing existing integrity can use the Model S96 Flange Cradle Support. Retractable covers

GTI's new cover system allows tanks to be securely covered while providing access to internal components. Ideal for clarifiers, chlorine contact basins, sedimentation tanks, and aeration basins, the covers contain odors, capture VOCs, eliminate sunlight penetration and prevent splashing. The system is a high performance membrane cover supported on a low-profile aluminum arch frame. The UV protected membrane cover is gas tight and can be quickly detached and rolled up along the frame. The arch frames can be remove for complete access to the tank. Optional hatches allow access without retracting the cover. Off-gas removal piping connects to the cover system.

Shutoff valves

New ApolloRegistered AlleviatorRegistered through-wall shutoff valves from Conbraco are available in 13", 16" and 22" lengths. They feature a corrosion-resistant all-bronze body and come in 3/4", 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2" and 2" pipe sizes. Ballasted flocculation

USFilter Kruger Products offers the ACTIFLORegistered ballasted flocculation process for high rate clarification. The system is designed to save costs and meet regulations. The system takes a typical chemical floc and attaches it to a particle of sand. The end result is "floc on a rock." By utilizing microsand as a seed for floc formation, the company has developed a flocculation/sedimentation process that is up to 20 times smaller than conventional clarification. Besides having an ultra-small footprint, the system offers additional benefits because the sand allows for more effective removal of solids, organics, pathogens, and other typical water contaminants. The sand also stabilizes the process during sudden fluctuations in raw water quality.
