High-velocities magmeter

Marsh-McBirney recently introduced the Multi-MagT magmeter, an addition to its existing Multi-Mag product line. The new insertable multi-electrode sensor is ideal for pipe sizes 36" - 120". An array of electromagnetic sensors are strategically located on the insertable probe that spans the entire pipe diameter. The sensors detect and compensate for shifting profiles. The streamlined sensor shape minimizes flow disturbances, thus providing minimal pressure drop. The meter has proven itself in difficult flow conditions such as shifting profiles, low flows, wide flow ranges, and bend/elbow installations. The meter offers accuracies better than 1% of reading and comes with a standard five-year warranty.

Tablet chlorination system

PPG's Accu-Tab System consists of 3" calcium hypochlorite tablets with 65% available chlorine used in the patented erosion chlorinator. The chlorinators have no moving parts and no small openings to clog - eliminating the need for metering pumps. A portion of the process water, whether potable or wastewater, is diverted through the chlorinator. The water flow erodes the tablet, with the amount of chlorination being controlled by the inlet water flow. The chlorinated water is then returned and mixed in with the process stream. This system is an alternative to chlorine gas cylinders and sodium hypochlorite for sanitizing water systems.

DOC removal

A new NSF-approved continuous magnetic ion exchange process from Orica Watercare is designed to remove dissolved organic carbon (DOC) from drinking water. The new system uses the patented high capacity MIEX® resin. It removes DOC at the front end of a water treatment plant in a stirred contactor, much like a flash mixer in a conventional water treatment plant. The significantly smaller resin beads provide maximum surface area and allow rapid DOC adsorption kinetics. A magnetic component is dispersed within the resin particle structure so that, when passed to a settler, the fine resin beads rapidly agglomerate into larger, fast-settling particles.

The separator can increase the efficiency of the sedimentation process and provide a footprint reduction of up to 90% over a conventional sedimentation/clarification system.

Ballasted flocculation

USFilter Kruger Products offers the Actiflo® ballasted flocculation process for high rate clarification. The system takes a typical chemical floc and attaches it to a particle of sand. The end result is "floc on a rock." By using microsand as a seed for floc formation, the company has developed a flocculation/sedimentation process that is up to 20 times smaller than conventional clarification. The microsand allows for more effective removal of solids, organics, pathogens, and other typical water contaminants. It also stabilizes the process during sudden fluctuations in raw water quality.
