Level detector

The Opti-Float® level detector uses light instead of electricity, is non-mechanical and mercury free. Because the detector uses fiber optic cable and light instead of copper wires and electricity, it can be used directly in explosive areas such as wastewater pump station wet wells. The float, cable and UL/CSA listed transceiver are durable and have been tested to over 12,000,000 operations. Using fiber optic cable, a beam of light is transmitted from an LED in a remote transceiver down to the float, where the beam makes and breaks depending on the tilt of the float.

Pipe, cable locator

Radiodetection's RD5000™ WL single-frequency pipe and cable locator kit is designed to deliver accurate and user-friendly utility location. The combination locator and transmitter provide a single high frequency location kit which is well-matched to the task of locating jointed pipes. These often pose a particular challenge due to isolative seals between sections. Locating specific pipes and cables in large underground networks is becoming increasingly complex. To address this, Radiodetection has developed ClearTrack™, a digital signal processing engine that automatically rejects other signals from adjacent conductors, leading to more accurate location of a target pipe or cable.

Catalytic carbon

Siemens Water Technologies has introduced AquaCarb 1240CAT catalytic carbon, an addition to the company's Westates carbon product line for the North American market. It uses coconut shell-based carbon specially processed to offer enhanced performance capabilities over traditional catalytic carbons in water treatment. The new product can provide improved results in water quality targets for chloramine, hydrogen sulfide, and hydrogen peroxide removal. The coconut shell base provides a higher adsorption capacity with extensive micropore structure for VOCs (volatile organic compounds), lower ash content and higher hardness/abrasion resistance, which results in longer effective carbon life, reduced replacement frequency and lower overall life cycle costs as compared to traditional catalytic coal carbons.

Lining system

Sauereisen's SewerSeal F-170 is a durable, calcium aluminate-based lining. Its versatility allows for use in manholes and lift stations regardless of the type of substrate - concrete, brick or steel. The lining prevents water infiltration into municipal collection systems. Ultimately this reduces the amount of sewage to treat and total treatment expense. Spincast equipment allows for rapid installation from ground level. This minimizes downtime and improves safety by preventing confined space entry.

Disc filters

Arkal Spin Klin® automatic self-cleaning disc filters, available from Amiad, feature tightly stacked, finely grooved discs that are effective at capturing deformable particles such as organic solids. As water passes between the discs, particles are trapped in stopping points formed by the junctions between the grooves and shoulders of contiguous discs. Depending on the degree of filtration required - from 400 to 20 microns - there are between 18 and 32 stopping points along each grooved track. An automatic self-cleaning process triggered by pressure differential or a timer releases the compression spring on the disc stack and directs high-pressure jets of clean water at the discs, which spin free and release trapped solids. The self-cleaning cycle is quick and highly effective, while backwash volume is kept as low as 1% of product flow. The compact design allows modular, multiple-unit installations in a compact footprint for uninterrupted filtration. Polymer construction delivers years of service with minimal maintenance.

Hydraulic modeling

MWH Soft has released IWLive for real time water distribution hydraulic modeling, forecasting and SCADA integration. The release gives InfoWorks WS users the ability to move their hydraulic modeling and simulation applications from planning and design to operation and control. Intended for use in the water distribution control room, the software allows operators to run accurate hydraulic simulations that factor in energy costs, weather, real time (or delayed) SCADA telemetry, demand history, and valve and pumping control scenarios. Beyond increasing efficiency and reducing energy consumption, IWLive can help control room operators understand the effects of main breaks, pump and reservoir shutdowns, and other scheduled maintenance.

Multiparameter converter

Krohne has announced the availability of its new Optisens Mac 100 multiparameter converter for liquid analysis in the water and wastewater industry. It is the first device standardized for both flowmeters and analytical measuring devices. The multiparameter converter is based on the company's IFC 100 signal converter, which has been used for years for electromagnetic flowmeters and is widely accepted by users. The modular design offers great flexibility in configurations from single-channel converters to complex measuring systems. Users specify the number and type of signal inputs and outputs, and define the complexity of the measuring point and the number of parameters. The standardized user interface and easy-to-use graphic display also speeds up commissioning of the device and opens access to a wide range of diagnostic functions for devices and processes.
