Underground Solutions Inc. recently completed its first Duraliner Water Line Replacement System installation for the City of Los Angeles.
J. Fletcher Creamer & Son Inc. was the general contractor to the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power. UGSI, under contract to the contractor, performed the installation of approximately 360 linear feet of Duraliner to replace a deteriorated section of asbestos cement water line. The existing line ran under the Santa Fe & Los Angeles Harbor railway, and under a section of a residential structure that was constructed within the right-away.

The Lost Angeles Water Services Organization (WSO) plans to invest approximately $3.4 billion to improve the reliability and quality of the water supply for the city's 3.8 million residents. Los Angeles' extensive water system will require significant capital improvements due to aging infrastructure, scheduled replacements, and anticipated changes in state and federal water quality regulations.
Duraliner is a patented process for pipeline renewal resulting in a "stand alone" structural lining capability that conforms to NSF 61 Standards for Drinking Water Components/Health Effects. The liner can handle a wide range of water system operating pressures and provides the capability to restore flow to the original pipe "as new" conditions. In addition, it provides an equivalent design-life of new PVC pipelines (100 years) thus qualifying the rehabilitated pipe lines to be capitalized as new assets under the rules of GASB Statement 34.
