The Impact of ARRA on the Water Industry

May 1, 2009
Editor’s Note: The following is an interview with Lisa Sorgini, global director for municipal strategic marketing at Siemens Water Technologies.

1) How will the water industry benefit from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Stimulus Package)?

Roughly $6 billion will move to municipalities through the EPA and the State Revolving Fund (SRF) Priority Lists based on applicants’ Intended Use Plans. The biggest benefit: the water industry will see over two times more funding than average, which means more projects will be able to move forward. The second benefit: the money will move quickly. Within 12 months of the ARRA enactment, the money distributed to states must be spent. Priority will be given to projects that will use the funding within 120 days – or by June 17, 2009. Therefore, there is great emphasis on projects that are ready to proceed.
