Fiber-Filled Epoxy Lining System to Protect New Digesters

The Honouliuli Wastewater Treatment Plant in West Oahu, Hawaii, is owned and operated by the city and county of Honolulu. Originally constructed in 1984, the plant serves an area of approximately 120 square miles. Due to population growth and business development in the area, water recycling needs had significantly increased and become more than the original plant was capable of handling.

Grit shield

Sometimes pumps suffer from erosion adjacent to the wear ring, due to grit trapped on the high pressure side of the ring, which becomes an abrasive slurry rotating at half the pump speed, eating away at the fronthead. To avoid the need to upgrade the fronthead or casing to tougher stainless alloys or high chrome, Fairbanks Morse has developed the Grit Shield. Heat treated 600 Brinell and interchangeable with a standard wear ring, this is a cast stainless skirt covered with “speed bumps” that break up rotational patterns of the slurry, expelling debris back into the flow stream.
