The Hach FilterTrak 660 sc Laser Nephelometer has the ability to detect a 0.0003 NTU change in turbidity, providing operators of membrane facilities with confidence in their turbidity measurement. The sensor uses USEPA approved Hach FilterTrak Method #10133. This provides treatment plants that have ultra-low turbidity in their filtration effluent with a single technology to monitor, optimize and report. On-site calibration is fast and inexpensive using the company’s StablCal® 0.1 and 0.8 NTU standards.

UF membranes

The new larger-format DOW™ Ultrafiltration SFP-2880 module offers 50 percent more membrane active area while decreasing the required system footprint by 30 percent. The module adds 20 inches of length when compared to the company’s Ultrafiltration SFP-2860, but still features the high strength PVDF hollow fibers with a nominal pore size of 0.03µ. The new module also allows flexibility in system design by reducing the number of modules, required piping, skid infrastructure, and the size of the compressed air and clean in place systems. In addition, the larger modules produce a smaller waste stream for disposal.

The TurboDrum series from Headworks® has been specifically engineered to meet the higher level of screening required by modern municipal wastewater facilities. Advances in water treatment such as Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) and Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) processes require higher levels of screenings removal on the front end. The new drum screens use wedge wire from Johnson Screens®. The equipment is available in a wide range of hydraulic and separation capacities to allow customization for the most effective screening solutions.

ITT Leopold® desalination pretreatment systems can remove contaminants before they reach an RO membrane system. The company offers two desalination pretreatment system technologies–Leopold Clari-DAF® dissolved air flotation system and Leopold FilterWorx® rapid gravity media filtration. The Clari-DAF system requires no polymer, has high loading rates, is compact in design and effectively operates in low temperature raw water. The FilterWorx rapid gravity media filter system has a downflow design, efficiently stores solids, handles wide swings in solids loading and provides long filter runs with high production rates.

Toray Membrane USA has introduced two new low pressure brackish models of TMG20-400C and TMG20-430C reverse osmosis membrane elements. The new products feature a new permeate tube design that standardizes permeate tube dimensions without the need for special adaptors when replacing competitor elements. The company also offers new 34 mil brine spacers for models of TM720N-400 high rejection brackish elements and TMG20N-400 low pressure brackish elements. The thicker brine spacer makes the element more resistant to fouling and easier to clean in waters with higher suspended solids and difficult process water applications.

RO, NF membranes

Koch Membrane Systems offers the MegaMagnum reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) systems for industrial and municipal applications. The MegaMagnum systems use the world’s highest area spiral-wound membrane elements to significantly reduce the complexity, footprint, and installation time of water treatment systems. Plants designed using the membranes require only half the area of floor space compared to a conventional 8" rack and use only one-seventh the amount of elements to produce the same volume and quality of water as conventional RO systems operating at similar fluxes and pressures.
