WEFTEC 2010, the annual event hosted by the Water Environment Federation, will take place October 2-6 in New Orleans, LA. With a technical program of 112 technical sessions, 34 workshops and six local facility tours, the 83rd annual event is expected to draw thousands of water quality professionals and exhibitors from around the world.

To date, nearly 1000 companies have already reserved over 275,000 net square feet of floor space at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center. Recognized as the largest annual water quality exhibition in the world, the show floor provides access to the most cutting-edge technologies, international business opportunities, and peer-to-peer networking.

Scheduled for Monday, October 4, this year's keynote address will be delivered by Steven Solomon, an economics journalist and author of Water: The Epic Struggle for Wealth, Power, and Civilization. Recognizing that freshwater scarcity is one of the 21st Century's looming challenges and is driving the new political, economic, and environmental realities across the globe, Solomon will share his insights about the key role water has had in the development of modern societies, and the growing issues over scarcity and pollution that could lead to a global crisis unless we adopt more sustainable approaches to water management.

The opening session will also feature WEF President Paul Freedman, recognition of WEF awards, and the 2010 Stockholm Junior Water Prize winners.
