MTS/Mass Transfer Systems designs and manufactures the MTS Aspirator™ submersible self aspirating aerator for industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment. The technology is currently finding applications for small tanks needing aeration or for supplemental aeration in larger processes. The aspirator is designed for a variety of applications where oxygen transfer and mixing are required along with portability. Its design places the aerator at the bottom of the tank and creates distinct zones of influence for aeration and mixing.

Modular wastewater treatment
An advanced, modular wastewater treatment and recycling system – using technology originally designed for the US Military and the oil and gas industry – is now available from Global Water Group. The extended aeration/activated sludge wastewater treatment system processes water in half the time of conventional aeration systems. Using modular units, the system operates in combination with a separate recycling unit and a purification unit. The systems can be sized to handle flows from a few thousand to tens of millions of gallons per day.

The Oxi700 BOD System from Orbeco-Hellige meets Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater (Method 5210 D) and is ideal for process control. Available as a 6 or 12 sample system, the instrument produces precise BOD measurements based on the manometric principle. Manometric respirometers regulate the oxygen uptake with the change in pressure caused by oxygen consumption while maintaining a constant volume.

The Toray "Membray" submerged flat sheet membrane bioreactor (MBR) module, when used as a component of a MBR system, effectively removes suspended solids from activated sludge. This microfiltration module in a plate-and-frame configuration consists of flat sheet PVDF membranes that are caste on a polyester, non-woven fabric as the base layer. This combination of materials gives the membrane physical strength and chemical stability. Using membranes with a high density distribution of 0.08µ nominal pores to separate sludge ensures treated water free from suspended solids.

Featuring ISE technology, the new Hydra Ammonium Analyzer from Electro-Chemical Devices can be used to monitor the ammonium nutrient load directly in the aeration basin of a wastewater treatment plant as well as environmental waters, lakes, streams and wells. The analyzer measures the concentration of dissolved ammonium nitrogen (NH4+ -N) in all kinds of water using three electrodes: an Ammonium Ion Electrode, a Potassium Ion Electrode and a pH Electrode. The analyzer is designed to automatically compensate for the pH dependant concentration equilibrium and potassium ion interference on the ammonium electrode.

HSI has introduced its new air-bearing HT Series blower. The new High Speed Turbo Blowers can reportedly provide a 20-40 percent reduction in energy costs and require less maintenance. The only scheduled maintenance is routine inlet filter changes. The series is quiet, with less than 80 dba per OSHA standards. The Spiralift SL provides fine screening, washing, transporting and compacting of wastewater solids while leaving essential organics in the flow. It can be installed in existing channels, reduces solids disposal costs and protects downstream equipment. Provided as a fully integrated system, the system includes a shaftless screw screen, a Taskmaster® Grinder and control system which coordinates normal and special functions. Universal Blower Pac has released the EE-Pac, an energy efficient blower system designed for variable processes that require high efficiency at all operating points. The system has a wide turndown capability and remains efficient across the entire operating range. The variable flow, variable pressure machine can handle process fluctuations without extensive control systems to prevent damage to the equipment. Units are equipped with an onboard control system and touch-screen HMI. The blowers can reach pressures up to 20 psig, and can produce flows up to 3100 cfm. Cloth media filters
AquaDiamond® Filters provide the benefit of OptiFiber® cloth filtration media in a lower profile, diamond configuration, with several design and performance advantages compared to traveling bridge sand filters. The systems can provide 2-3 times the flow capacity with an equivalent footprint and up to three times higher solids loading capabilities per square foot of media. They offer reduced backwash water volume and produce reuse quality effluent. The filters can be retrofitted into existing concrete traveling bridge filters with minimal civil work, or can be installed in new plants.

EDUR special flotation pumps are now available for 500 gpm flotation applications, providing 12% entrained gas and producing ultra-fine, 30 micron bubbles. They provide an efficient air saturation system for waste activated sludge thickening and applications or systems requiring gas charging of liquids. System installations are designed for new and retrofitted dissolved air flotation applications. They can be integrated into many OEM DAF units, can achieve separation efficiencies greater than 95%, with enhanced float solids concentration at 3 to 8WT%.
