Flow meter

Pennwell web 219 166

Municipal water engineers tasked with measuring liquid flow from water storage reservoirs or lakes as it enters treatment facilities will find the space-saving V-Cone® Flow Meter from McCrometer easily fits in crowded equipment installations where long pipe straight-runs are impractical. The meter features built-in flow conditioning. It reduces flow meter straight pipe run requirements by up to 70 percent or more and needs only 0-3 straight pipe diameters upstream and 0-1 downstream to operate effectively.

AMR leak detection

Sensus and Fluid Conservation Systems (FCS) are pairing their products – Sensus' FlexNet® and FCS' Permalog+ AMR – to provide an acoustic leak detection solution that can be used to enhance customer service, curb revenue loss due to leaks, and promote conservation efforts of any size water utility. FlexNet is a wireless fixed-base data collection and communication system which employs a primary-use, licensed radio spectrum to transmit data at up to two watts. Permalog is an acoustic noise logger which detects vibrations caused by leaks in water pipes. The units listen during the night when ambient noise is at its lowest.

Wide area network

Aclara has introduced a mesh-based wide-area network for utilities. The Aclara Smart Communications Network is a high-bandwidth, standards-based, broadband solution that will bring together existing utility assets and applications into a single network. The network is designed for use by water, gas or electric utilities and employs TCP/IP communications protocols as well as IEEE 802.11 standards for wireless communications. It allows utilities to replace multiple, low-to-medium bandwidth systems that now communicate data to utilities. The system provides an interface to utility and IT resources and back-office applications for SCADA control and monitoring systems, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), home-area networks, and mobile-workforce applications.

Electromagnetic water meter

Pennwell web 210 221

Krohne has introduced the Waterflux 3070, a new electromagnetic water meter for applications in the water and wastewater industry. Its 15 year battery life makes it ideally suited to applications where no power is available. The device also has the option of a GSM module for remote transmission of measurement data and status information. Thanks to extremely short inlet and outlet installation requirements, the meter can be installed in very narrow wells and chambers.

Lithium batteries

Pennwell web 210 250

Tadiran Batteries has introduced an improved version of its PulsesPlus™ battery, which now provides an indication when nearing its end of life, allowing users to maximize the service life of the original battery while at the same time ensuring continuous service through scheduled battery replacements. Lithium thionyl chloride batteries are typically used in applications where battery replacement or recharging is either impossible or extremely difficult. The new improvements come in two distinct families: A 3.6v system with a 5% end-of-life indication (when the battery uses up 95% of its capacity, a remote indicator can advise the end users that 5% of operating life remains), and a 3.9v system with a 10% end-of-life indication.

Transit-time flowmeter

Pennwell web 210 179

Shenitech has announced availability of its new third generation STUF-300F1B Wall-Mount Transit-Time Flowmeter. Designed for nonintrusive pipe flow measurement, the flowmeter uses a pair of clamp-on ultrasonic transducers to measure flow from outside the pipe. The meter's +1% accuracy (+0.5% with on-site calibration), nonintrusive design eliminates contact with process liquids and requires no maintenance. The meter accommodates a wide pipe range from 1" to 240" diameter.
