MIDLAND, MI, & MINNEAPOLIS, MN, March 4, 2005 -- The Dow Chemical Company will implement a global price increase on its complete range of Dowex ion exchange resins, adsorbents and catalysts, raising their cost by 5-10% effective April 15 or as contracts allow.

In addition, a global price increase of 6% will go into effect on all FilmTecTM reverse osmosis and nanofiltration membranes effective on orders shipped after May 31.

The price increase reflects continuing increases in raw material, energy and operating costs. More specifically, the company cited petrochemical and energy costs, which continue to increase significantly resulting in a need to cover higher raw material and manufacturing costs.

Further, Dow stated it continues to invest in the growing needs of the membrane industry, developing and offering products and services that enable the production of the highest quality water at the lowest total cost. In June 2004, FilmTec announced plans to more than double the size of its membrane manufacturing plant. The new facility will house additional membrane lines and fabrication cells, and will introduce further automation and new process capabilities to better meet the rapidly growing demands of the industry.

Dow is a leader in science and technology, providing innovative chemical, plastic and agricultural products and services to many essential consumer markets. With annual sales of $40 billion, Dow serves customers in 175 countries and a wide range of markets that are vital to human progress: food, transportation, health and medicine, personal and home care, and building and construction, among others. Committed to the principles of sustainable development, Dow and its 43,000 employees seek to balance economic, environmental and social responsibilities.
