BEIJING, Dec 29, 2004 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai-listed Beijing Capital Co. Ltd., a public utilities operator based in the Chinese capital, has extended its water treatment business to the coastal areas and areas along rivers.
On Monday, the Capital (Huainan) Water Co. Ltd. was inaugurated in Huainan, Anhui Province, marking the Beijing Capitals entry into the local water treatment market.
Just one day earlier, Capital (Xuzhou) Water Co. Ltd., in which Beijing Capital has an 80% equity, was founded in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province.
So far, Beijing Capital has invested more than 6 billion yuan (US$724.9 million) in the water service industry in eight Chinese cities, with a total water handling capacity of 6 million tons.
Liu Xiaoguang, chairman of Beijing Capital, said his company has initially selected the coastal areas and areas along rivers in tapping the water service business. These areas include cities in Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces where the local population exceeds one million and the daily handling capacity exceeds 200,000 tons.
According to Liu, the next target of Beijing Capital will be a tap water project in Qinhuangdao, a port city in north China's Hebei Province.
Beijing Capital also has cooperated with a French partner in tapping the Chinese water service market.
