FORT WASHINGTON, PA, Jan. 20, 2005 -- The Lititz, Pa., wastewater treatment plant, operated and maintained by Severn Trent Services, has been selected to receive the 2004 Plant Operation and Maintenance Excellence Award from the Eastern Pennsylvania Water Pollution Control Operators Association (EPWPCOA).

This award recognizes publicly owned treatment works treating more than 2 MGD per day that have demonstrated outstanding performance in permit compliance, process control, maintenance management, financial management, innovated practices, laboratory management, personnel training programs, pretreatment and industrial waste management, solids handling and disposal, safety, and public relations.

Pennsylvania facilities receiving individual section awards are eligible for the Pennsylvania Water Environment Association (PWEA) Plant Operations and Maintenance Excellence Award. Winners will be submitted to the US Environmental Protection Agency for regional and national competition.

In March 2004, Lititz was presented the Severn Trent Services Environmental Leadership Alliance Award for regulatory compliance, minimization and treatment of waste, reduction of toxic and hazardous materials, and conservation of resources. In 1990, the facility received the USEPA Region III Operations and Maintenance Excellence Award and was a national award finalist.

Commenting on the award, Jeffrey Doutrich, Severn Trent Services regional manager, stated: "The Lititz wastewater facility was constructed in 1980 using state-of-the-art technology that continues to serve the community with an excellent record of regulatory compliance. We are fortunate to be in partnership with the Borough and are honored to accept the Operations and Maintenance Excellence Award on behalf of the Borough of Lititz."

Carl Kline, project manager, noted, "Selection for this award exemplifies the commitment by Lititz Borough Council, Lititz Sewer Authority and Severn Trent employees to protect both our environment and the community's assets."

The Lititz wastewater treatment plant is a 3.85-MGD, two-stage activated sludge facility. Severn Trent has operated and maintained this and the Borough's 3-MGD water treatment plant since 1988.
