Severn Trent Services to provide arsenic removal technology for Sacramento
FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. - September 9, 2005 -- The SORB 33® arsenic removal technology and Bayoxide® E33 arsenic removal media from Severn Trent Services have been selected for use by the Sacramento County (Calif.) Water Agency at a 300 gallon per minute (gpm) arsenic removal water treatment facility, where total arsenic in an Agency well was measured at 19 parts per billion (ppb). The new EPA arsenic standard for drinking water of 10 ppb will go into effect in January 2006. PPL Corp. shuts down coal-fired generating units at Martins Creek Plant
ALLENTOWN, PA, Sept. 8, 2005 -- PPL Corp. will shut down the two coal-fired generating units at the company's Martins Creek power plant today and has stopped all flow of water into the temporary fly ash basin at the plant to evaluate the basin's integrity. The amount of water from a small leak is negligible, the company says. The incident follows another Aug. 23 that allowed an estimated 100 million gallons of water and ash to flow out of the basin into the Delaware River...
