Source Sentinel, Inficon form business alliance to deliver intelligent early warning water management systems to detect chemical and biological toxins...

SYRACUSE, NY¬, June 13, 2005 -- Source Sentinel LLC, innovative developer of near real-time detection, alert and response systems to protect drinking water supplies from chemical and biological threats, and Inficon, a developer of advanced instrumentation designed for fast, on-site detection of chemical contamination and warfare agents, announced today a technology and marketing alliance. The two Syracuse-based companies will jointly market and sell Source Sentinel's Intelligent Water Management Systems which include the Inficon Hapsite Chemical Identification System to drinking water source, treatment, and distribution facilities and system operators. This combined effort to reach the U.S. and international water utilities marketplace provides a vital systems approach to government and industry for integrated assurance of water quality.

Both were exhibiting June 12-16 at the American Water Works Association 2005 Annual Convention & Exhibition in San Francisco.

Source Sentinel and Inficon advanced technologies offer precise, current data for decisions affecting life, health, and safety in water security and water quality surveillance. These proactive products include the fastest, most accurate, on-site technology for reducing vulnerability to chemical threats and minimizing public health impact, providing crucial information for corrective action and predictive models for optimizing cost-effective delivery of higher quality water.

Terrance P. Madden, Source Sentinel LLC president, said, "We are very pleased to be in alliance with Inficon, another great Syracuse and Central New York firm. Together we can offer users more flexibility to help protect water supplies against natural and terrorist-induced threats and contamination. You know, we believe Source Sentinel has considerably more applications than Homeland Defense. Source Sentinel aims to help water purveyors control operational cost by adding intelligent, decision-making tools based on the data fusion from a variety of sensors, including the Inficon Hapsite technology."

Lukas Winkler, Inficon president and CEO, commented, "The information-rich detection systems from Inficon for identifying chemical contamination combine with Source Sentinel's secure artificial intelligence technology to relay information to water system operators who can assess the risk of potentially hazardous situations for a timely response. We believe this exciting collaboration with Source Sentinel leverages our critical sensor technology, incorporated in the innovative Source Sentinel system, and provides an excellent solution to those charged with protecting our drinking water supplies from natural and man-made contaminants."

On June 8, Congressman James T. Walsh (NY-25th) announced that he had placed a second year of U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Threat Reduction Agency funding for Source Sentinel's research, development and commercialization into the House Appropriations Committee-Defense bill totaling $1,800,000. Last year, Congressman Walsh secured $1,200,000 in funding for Source Sentinel. Congressman Walsh said, "This partnership, spawned from the basic goal of monitoring the quality of public drinking water sources, today has multiple military and civilian applications in our post 9/11 world."

Source Sentinel and Inifcon specialists were available to discuss their Intelligent Water Management Systems, INFICON HAPSITE -- a man-portable GC/MS delivering fast, on-site analysis of organic chemical contaminants -- and Scentograph Water Monitoring Systems, both with Situ-Probe on-site purge and trap protocol, at AWWA at Booth 1346.

Inficon (www.inficon.com), a developer, manufacturer and supplier of innovative instrumentation, critical sensor technologies, and advanced process control software for the semiconductor, vacuum coating and other industrial applications, has a portfolio of products aimed at early, on-site detection of chemical contamination in water source and distribution systems. INFICON also provides toxic chemical analysis for the emergency response and security markets and essential instrumentation for gas leak detection to the air conditioning/refrigeration markets. The company's analyses, measurement and control products are vital to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users in the complex manufacturing of semiconductors, flat panel displays, magnetic and optical storage media and precision optics. Headquartered in Syracuse, New York, INFICON has world-class manufacturing facilities in the United States and Europe and worldwide offices in the U.S., China, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

Source Sentinel LLC (www.sourcesentinel.com), an innovative private-public sector New York State Limited Liability Company, draws on the exceptional talent of three Central New York organizations with proven achievements in water supply design, water quality science, data fusion and detection, alert and response systems integration. The State University of New York College of Environmental Science & Forestry (SUNY-ESF) is developing and demonstrating the antibodies and biochips for immuno-assay detection of biological toxins; Sensis Corporation, integrator of surveillance sensors and information management systems, is developing the user interface, data fusion and system inference engine decision-making tools; O'Brien & Gere, an environmental engineering firm, is designing and integrating the sensor arrays into a multi-function system and will adapt the system into the drinking water infrastructure both as a buoy-mounted and water processing facility staged options. Source Sentinel LLC is a congressionally funded collaborator with the Department of Defense, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center and is supported, in part, by the New York State Office of Science and Academic Research, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
