MINNEAPOLIS, MN, June 28, 2005 -- Ex-senior vice president of Pentair Water Technologies Jorge Fernandez and Phillip Olsen, owner of Midwest Water Engineering (MWE), have partnered together to form a new consulting business focused on water treatment. The new company is Water Science and Marketing LLC.

At the time Fernandez left Pentair Water, he was senior vice president for emerging markets, a post he took over in 2002 after leading Pentair's Water Treatment unit in North American and Europe since 1997 as president. He left there an impressive record of sales and profit growth for these businesses. Both he and Olsen had been very active within the Water Quality Association, Jorge serving on its board and Phil serving on a variety of technical and administrative committees.

"Jorge and I discussed this idea for some some time after he had left Pentair and we saw clear current and future business opportunities in the key markets where quality water is critical. We decided to partner and focus our practice helping clients succeed at growing their businesses in the global water treatment markets. We see ourselves as a resource that can help fill the business gap between strategy formulation and in-market program execution and the technology gap between a water quality challenge and its best technical resolution. The result is our partnership in Water Science and Marketing (WSM)," Olsen said.

Prior to his consulting career, Olsen was general manager for Aqualite Manufacturing, for Robert B. Hill Inc., and market research director for LifeTouch Inc. He launched MWE in 1993.

"WSM preserves the technology and research expertise of Midwest Water Engineering," Fernandez added. "That is -- providing technology evaluation, creativity in system design, assistance in regulatory compliance and so on, using multi-skill consulting teams for clients. MWE has been doing this for the past 12 years and has developed an impressive client list, a sign of a dynamic and professional consulting practice."

Fernandez now brings to the new venture an impressive range of global business development expertise, from acquisitions and visioning to market entry, including new product development.

Industrial, food and beverage, and medical applications for water treatment technologies represent a significant market for the new enterprise, Water Science and Marketing, especially as it pertains to new markets, new technology development, application engineering, pilot testing/management, and research and development. Opportunities for technical/operations training are strong in these market sectors as well.
