PITTSBURGH, PA, May 26, 2005 -- Calgon Carbon Corp.'s UV Technologies Division has been awarded three contracts for ultraviolet systems to disinfect wastewater. The three systems are valued at over $650,000 and will be installed later this year.

In Sicily, Italy, a municipal wastewater treatment plant placed an order for the first C3150TM Wastewater Disinfection System to be designed and manufactured by Calgon Carbon Corporation. The C3150 system will treat up to 0.5 million gallons of wastewater per day to meet EU urban wastewater standards for preventing the spread of waterborne pathogens to lakes, streams, rivers, and coastal waters.

The open channel, parallel flow ultraviolet disinfection system were designed to meet demands of treatment plant operators for equipment that is simple to operate and maintain. The C3150 can be built to fit nearly all open channel wastewater streams to treat the flows of small-to-medium-sized treatment plants.

Calgon Carbon was also awarded a contract for two Sentinel® UV reactors for the Broad Run Water Reclamation Facility in Loudoun County, VA. The Loudoun County Sanitation Authority will use the Sentinel systems to disinfect up to 18 mgd of wastewater plant effluent prior to discharge into the Potomac River.

The final project is for wastewater reuse in Sydney, Australia and is the first to utilize Calgon Carbon's Sentinel UV Disinfection System for reclamation of municipal wastewater. This project will employ the system to treat up to 3 mgd of wastewater for reuse in residential, non-potable applications such as lawn watering and car washing. This is Calgon Carbon's first order for a UV system in Australia and the first project awarded through the efforts of the UV Division's new Australian distributor, Liquitek Pty. Ltd. of St. Marys, New South Wales.

Commenting on the announcements, James Sullivan, division general manager, said, "These new contracts demonstrate the company's commitment to grow its UV Technologies Division through the development and application of new products. In addition, the two international projects are the result of our concerted effort to expand our business outside of North America." He added, "With the receipt of contracts for traditional wastewater disinfection and wastewater reuse, Calgon Carbon continues to strengthen its position as a leading provider of total UV solutions."

Calgon Carbon Corp., based in Pittsburgh, is a global leader in services and solutions for making air and water cleaner and safer. The company employs about 1,100 people at 16 operating facilities and 27 sales and service centers worldwide.
