ALMATY, Kazakhstan, Dec. 29, 2005 -- McElroy Manufacturing Inc., a leading supplier of polyethylene (PE) pipe fusion equipment initiated and sponsored a PE pipe fusion training center in Almaty, Kazakhstan, at the facilities of Kazakh Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering (KazGASA). The training center is in response to the rapid HDPE market upsurge, which is exposing a shortage of HDPE specialists including pipe fusion operators.
"The HDPE pipe market in Kazakhstan has grown dramatically during last few years," said Anatoly Kim of Maran Engineering based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. "PE piping has found acceptance in applications in various industries such as gas, water, mining and other piping industries and we are excited about the immense opportunity for fusion equipment in the region." Maran Engineering supplies McElroy fusion equipment to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine, Romania and other countries in NIS and Eastern Europe.
Chevron MunaiGas (CMI), a subsidiary company of Chevron, built an HDPE pipe manufacturing facility in Atyrau (Western part of Kazahstan) in the spring of 2003. Since that time Kazakhstan has been manufacturing world class HDPE pipe. CMI brought pipe extrusion technology from Plexco and pipe fusion expertise from McElroy to the region and the technology has been rapidly accepted. CMI has been a McElroy distributor since 2000 when the first McElroy fusion machines appeared in Kazakhstan.
To deal with this rapid growth, McElroy subsidized and organized the training center to provide the local PE pipe market with world class instructors and training equipment. The training center will be located in Almaty, Kazakhstan with the name McElroy-KazGASA Training Center (MKTC). McElroy and KazGASA set up an agreement in which KazGASA provides the training facility and instructors for the center and McElroy supplies the fusion equipment while CMI will make available the pipe samples for training needs.
McElroy has donated several fusion machines for MKTC along with a new DataLogger which is used to record the time, temperature and fusion pressure of each fusion joint made with a McElroy fusion machine. The device verifies that the fusion operator follows proper procedure when making a fusion joint.
A grand opening for MKTC was held Nov. 3 at the new facility.
KazGASA is the leading institution in Kazakhstan in the field of architecture, design, construction, engineering, ecology, economics and management in construction. It has a highly professional teaching staff and long history in the region.
Since 1969, McElroy Manufacturing Inc. (www.mcelroy.com) has provided a comprehensive line of polyethylene pipe fusion equipment for the U.S. and international market. McElroy currently offers machines that fuse pipe and fittings from 1/2" to 63" (20mm to 1,600mm).
