EXTON, PA, April 25, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The South Australian Water Corporation, a public corporation dedicated to the treatment and distribution of potable water as well as the removal and treatment of wastewater, has been nominated for a 2005 BE Award for its Copper Coast Water Supply Master Plan project in Yorke Peninsula, South Australia.

The BE Awards of Excellence, which are presented at the annual BE Conference (www.be.org), honor the extraordinary work of Bentley users improving the world's infrastructure. These projects set benchmarks for their industries, and showcase the imagination and technical mastery of the organizations that created them.

The Copper Coast water supply system serves a permanent population of roughly 10,000. Due to the heavy influx of tourists to the coastal towns in the summer and an increase in development in the region, providing a satisfactory water supply is a challenge. During peak periods, the water supply system is at capacity and poor pressures develop along portions of it.

Bentley's WaterGEMS was used to hydraulically model the existing system and assess solutions to future demand scenarios. A current demand scenario was run to identify existing problems and a 25-year demand scenario was run to determine an ultimate design.

"Our use of WaterGEMS has greatly improved the efficiency of building and maintaining hydraulic models," said South Australian Water Corporation project manager Matthew Baines. "The LoadBuilder tool in particular has proved to be invaluable in assigning customer demands to the model. The inclusion of utilities like LoadBuilder, TRex, Darwin Designer, and Skelebrator, as well as integration with ArcGIS, makes WaterGEMS an extremely powerful tool."
