MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada, Feb. 7, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The first issue of Frontline Focus, a new monthly newsletter from TAPPI, will be published Feb.14.

Frontline Focus will be the first in-mill publication written specifically by and for operators and maintenance personnel and will deliver practical, problem-solving information. Editor Gene Canavan, a retired papermaker with twenty-nine years of mill experience in power, pulp, and wood production will bring a real-world focus to the new publication. Filled with practical papermaking advice, each monthly issue of Frontline Focus will touch on operations, troubleshooting, reliability and maintenance, and safety.

According Canavan, "It's exciting to be working on the first publication dedicated to operators. We'll feature reader-submitted solutions to real mill problems, plus practical tips on facing every-day challenges."

This new, hard-copy, printed newsletter will be distributed by mail directly to mill control rooms and maintenance areas. More than 100 mills have already subscribed to Frontline Focus. Mills in North America that have yet to subscribe to Frontline Focus are invited to visit www.tappi.org/frontline to request a free introductory subscription.

Bob Caron, TAPPI Vice President - Pulp and Paper, adds "TAPPI is committed to serving the needs of pulp and paper manufacturers. This new and exciting resource was created especially for frontline workers to give them reliable information in a fun and creative format they can use right away to solve everyday problems."

Bringing Frontline Focus to the industry's manufacturing workers is one of the many ways TAPPI, as a partner in the National Network for Pulp and Paper Technology Training -- (npt)2 -- with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), will help manufacturers become more competitive through their workforce.

Advance copies of the Feb. 14 issue of Frontline Focus were available in the TAPPI booth at EXFOR 2005, Feb. 8-10 in Montreal, Canada.

TAPPI is based in Atlanta, Ga., and annually hosts the Paper Expo, a premier event which will be held in Milwaukee, Wis., on May 23-25. For more information, visit www.papersummit.org.
