DALLAS, Feb. 2, 2005 (PRNewswire-FirstCall) -- CDT Systems Inc., of Dallas, Texas, and TDA Research Inc., of Wheat Ridge, Colo., have completed a license agreement, effective January 2005, whereby CDT Systems will obtain the rights to use TDA's patented "Porous Carbons from Carbohydrates," plus trade secrets, know how and proprietary information shared now or in the future under the terms of the agreement. The license agreement will be in effect for the life of the patents.

CDT Systems' license includes exclusive worldwide royalty-bearing rights for TDA technology relating to methods and materials for producing carbon- based materials for use in capacitive deionization units for separation of ions from water and for use as thermal insulation.

CDT Systems has conducted an R&D project evaluating TDA's material sciences and intellectual properties, including TDA-provided porous carbon electrodes identified as S-One. With the completion of the TDA license agreement, CDT Systems will initiate a pilot manufacturing process for the environmentally friendly S-One Carbon Electrodes.

CDT Systems (www.cdtwater.com) is the water licensee for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's (LLNL) patented Carbon Aerogel-based Capacitive Deionization Technology (CDT). CDT Systems will continue to engineer and manufacture CDT electrodes and Carbon Aerogel AquaCells. CDT will establish an R&D program for supplementing and enhancing LLNL's Resorcinol Formaldehyde (RF) licensed technology with the S-One material science carbon electrodes.
