A new SCADA installation for Nashville Metro Water Services features Citect's Process Analyst, a powerful visualization tool that for the first time in the SCADA world allows users to analyze alarms and process variables on a single screen. This makes it much easier and faster to determine root cause disturbances, hence reducing downtime significantly...

ALPHARETTA, GA, Feb. 9, 2005 -- Citect, a global provider of production process improvements, has been awarded a SCADA system upgrade project by the Nashville Metro Water Services (MWS) to provide engineering services and software in excess of $500,000. Citect partnered with Edison Automation to win the project. Edison Automation, a Citect 2004 Platinum Integrator Partner of the Year, will be providing general automation support for the project.

By offering superior service and scalable solutions that allow future enhancements without having to modify the existing configuration, Citect has established itself as a leading SCADA supplier in the U.S. water/wastewater industries, with significant water/wastewater authorities across the country that are standardized on Citect solutions.

"We are excited that another major water/waste water authority has chosen Citect for their long-term plans as well as their present needs. Citect and Edison continue a very successful partnership that is dedicated to helping Nashville Metro Water Service achieve their financial and operational objectives," says Darren Trumeter, Citect Americas president.

The Citect/Edison team faced numerous competitors vying for the project. The MWS Selection Committee decided the Citect solution offered the lowest total cost of ownership combined with the best overall functionality and flexibility to meet the utility's ever increasing water and wastewater infrastructure requirements.

"The Citect/Edison team impressed our evaluation panel with the thoroughness of their proposal. An open SCADA system with Citect interface addressed both our need to upgrade our Distribution SCADA, as well as interface with the existing Collection System SCADA. Their phased approach allowed the utility to defer some equipment expenditures for several years, which saved money," said Brent Freeman, of Nashville Metro's Engineer System Services Division.

The project scope involves an initial top-end SCADA software replacement of two older systems incorporating HSQ Technology (wastewater collection) and Wonderware software (water distribution). Future project stages will involve upgrading the communications and RTU hardware currently in place. The system will utilize many of the new version 6.0 CitectSCADA features, including the Process Analyst and Web Client. With the Process Analyst, users can now better analyze disturbances to determine their root causes, preventing possible future problems. The Web Client offers zero maintenance, fully functional clients for CitectSCADA control systems that are easily viewed via Internet Explorer.
