ABB won two major orders to modernize the water supply systems for Vologda, Russia and a water management system for a wide network of rivers, channels and lakes near the city of Batak in southern Bulgaria.
In Vologda, ABB Switzerland will equip 24 pumping stations within an area of 30 km with new drives and frequency converters. Flow meters and pressure transducers will measure the quantity of water and the pressure in the water pipes. The complete water supply system will be regulated, controlled and supervised from a central control room. The first order, worth US$ 2.5 million, also includes automation with ABB Operate, Control and Instrumentation. ABB radio communication provides the city with fast access to all system data in real time. Vologda is located 450 km north of Moscow and is populated by approximately 500,000 residents.
The company will also deliver instrumentation for 27 monitoring stations for the water management system in Batak, located in the Rhodope Mountains. ABB is responsible for installation, commissioning and training. The US$ 284,000 is partially financed by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland.
