The German Government agreed to fund the US$10.5-m rehabilitation of the Nyeri municipal water systems in Kenya.

Engineer Joseph Nguiguti of the Nyeri Water and Sewerage Company (Nyewaso) said the project will expand water treatment plants and water intake, and rehabilitate the sewerage treatment works. The project will also develop sewer infrastructure to homes and businesses. The project will increase water intake to 26,000 m3/d from the current 8,000 m3/d. The tendering process is underway.

The firm was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1997 and took over operations of the water and sewerage department of the Nyeri Municipal Council in 1998.
