Two Chinese firms hope to win a US$ 1 billion sewage treatment plant contract in Oman to be awarded in the fourth quarter of 2004.
China Railway and Sinohydro Corporation have been included in the shortlist of six companies to be awarded one of the biggest contracts in the country. The other four companies in the shortlist are Egypt's Societe Egyptienne d'Enterprises, The Arab Contractors, Larsen and Tourbo of India and local firm Galfar Engineering and Contracting.
Oman Tender Board is currently evaluating the bids which were opened earlier in June. The scope of work covers the installation of a 53,000 m3/day sewage treatment plant to be built at Al-Ansab in the capital Muscat. It will also involve the installation of a control system for the entire project and construction of a main collector. The successful bidder will be required to set up various pumping stations and connection to serve a network of 18,000 properties and two power generators.
