The US Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District awarded a contract to the URS Corporation to construct a segment of a stormwater treatment area (STA) outside the Village of Wellington, Florida, by August 2003. The STA 1-East Project encompasses some 10 square miles, located northeast of the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. URS will clear the site, grade the cell and construct a canal, levee and water control structures.

STAs are the key components of the largest ecosystem restoration program in the history of Florida.
