Over 10 international consortiums have entered the race to compete for the latest desalination expansion at the Al Ghubrah site in Oman.
The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) received 11 statements of qualifications (SoQs) from bidders to provide an additional 300,000 m3/day of desalination capacity to the site.
The following companies have submitted SoQs (in alphabetical order): International Company for Water and Power Projects (ACWA Power); Cobra Instalaciones Y servicio S.A, FCC Aqualia, S.A., Majis Industrial Service SAOC; International Power S.A.(IPSA); GS Inima Environment S.A; Marubeni Corporation; Abengoa, Shumookh Investment and Services SAOC, Engineering Procurement & Project Management(EPPM) and Al Bashair Investment Co. LLC; Sembcorp Utilities; Sojitz Corporation; SUEZ International; Sumitomo Corporation and Malakoff International Limited; UTICO FZC, IDB Infrastructure Fund II B.S.C and United Water Limited.
OPWP said the evaluation of the SoQs is currently underway. The site expansion will add to the existing 191,000 m3/day Al Ghubra desalination plant, which started commercial operation in early 2016.
