The Votorantim Celulose e Papel (VCP) plant, one of the largest pulp and paper mills in Brazil, selected Hydranautics' LFC3 reverse osmosis elements to supply its facility expansion. VCP plans to expand pulp production to 880,000 tons per year, which will require 420 Hydranautics' LFC3 elements for seven trains totalling 350 m3/hour. The VCP plant currently has an RO system with six trains producing a total of 300 m3/h of demineralised water used for boiler feed. Hydranautics supplied membranes for three of the six trains.

Hydranautics provided LFC3 elements for field trials during three months in a head-to-head comparison with elements from a competitor. After three-months of performance tests, Hydranautics' new low fouling LFC3 membranes were selected for the project. The elements demonstrated high permeate water quality, low cleaning frequency with 10% more element area compared to the competition, according to Hydranautics.
