Compact actuators suitable for space-constrained locations

For German company AUMA, one of the world's leading electric actuator manufacturers, Wasser Berlin is one of the most significant exhibitions in the trade fair calendar for 2011. The event enables AUMA to showcase its products to the water industry, a sector which it has specialised in supplying since 1964.

The exhibition is an ideal platform for the company to display its comprehensive product portfolio for valve automation. AUMA's display will include new SGC and SVC part-turn and multi-turn actuators, with a torque range between 10 and 500 Nm, as well as multi-turn actuator/part-turn gearbox combinations with torques of up to 675,00 Nm.

AUMA's new SGC actuator designed to suit loacations with space constraints

A key feature of AUMA's new SGC and SVC actuators displayed on the company's booth is their compact design: this is made possible by coaxial arrangement of an ellipto-centric gearing equipped with a permanent magnet motor.

All components for controlling the actuators, including local controls, are contained in a single housing. The design makes the products particularly appropriate for installations with space constraints. The actuators are available with parallel interface, but can also be equipped with Profibus DP and Modbus RTU interfaces.

An 'end stop' principle developed and proven by AUMA has been optimised for the company's GS gearboxes and this news is also promoted at Wasser Berlin. The new block stop construction prevents end position seizures which were difficult to release in certain conditions e.g. in the event of automatic tripping failure.

Safety wedge discs ensure that the required unseating torque is just 60% of the torque applied to approach the end stop.

Further developments promoted by AUMA include enhanced corrosion protection. Two-component powder coating is one of the crucial elements fulfilling the requirements of corrosivity category C4 (high) in compliance with EN ISO 12944-2.
