SINGAPORE – US consultancy CH2M has confirmed that it has been selected by Singapore's national water agency, PUB, for the development of its fifth desalination plant on Jurong Island under a design-build-own-operate (DBOO) arrangement.

At the end of July WWi magazine reported that CH2M had secured the Jurong Island project (read article).

The 137,000 m3/day desalination plant is expected to help Singapore cope with increasing water demands, which are predicted to double 2060.

Other project bidders included Parsons Brinckerhoff, AECOM, Arup and Black & Veatch (B&V).

By 2060 Singapore hopes to meet up to 85% of its water needs through desalination and NEWater, the country's reclaimed water.

Peter Nicol, president of CH2M global water business group, said: "We are proud to support PUB on its latest project on Jurong Island, helping secure the country's precious water resources for years to come."

The consultancy has previously worked with PUB as the designer and program manager for the Phase 1 Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS).
