SEOUL Korea –The Sohar 250,000 m3/day desalination plant in Oman will use NanoH2O seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) membranes supplied by LG Water Solutions, part of LG Chem.

Designed by Spanish company Valoriza Agua (read WWi story), the Sohar desalination plant will produce 250,000 m3/day and serve approximately 800,000 local Oman residents.

Sohar is expected to start operation in 2018.

The project is part of the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company’s (OPWP) plan for five desalination plants, as set out in a seven year statement.

Chul Nam, vice president of LG Chem said Sohar “is a significant project for LG Chem”.

It was in May 2014 when LG Chem acquired Californian company NanoH2O.

Since then the company has laid out strong ambitions to become the market leader in the RO membrane business, as Nam told WWi for a magazine article and later video interview at the IDA World Congress in California.
