SEOUL, South Korea – LG Chem will supply its reverse osmosis membranes to a desalination plant being built by Metito in El Galalah, Egypt.
Set to provide drinking water to two million people, the project faces challenging conditions as a result of higher temperatures and salt concentrations from the Red Sea.
LG Chem entered the membrane market after acquiring US company NanoH2O for an undisclosed sum back in 2014 (read article).
Last year, LG Chem won an order from to provide SWRO membranes to the Valoriza Agua 250,000 m3/day Sohar desalination plant in Oman.
The company has also provided membranes to the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), as well as Brazilian petroleum corporation Petrobras, the Shoaiba power plant in Saudi Arabia and a wastewater treatment plant of the city of Scottsdale in Arizona, US.
The company said the it is witnessing increasing sales of its residential scale RO membranes for home purification in China, India and Middle East countries.
