ELEUTHERA – The Water and Sewerage Corporation of the Bahamas has awarded GE a contract to build a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant – its fourth on the Caribbean island of Eleuthera.

Under the terms of the 15-year outsourcing service agreement, GE Water & Process Technologies will build, own and operate (BOO) a SWRO desalination plant that will supply North Eleuthera with 2730 m3/day of clean drinking water.

Located about 80 kilometers east of Nassau in the Bahamas, the facility will be GE’s fourth BOO desalination plant on the island.

The new plant is expected to begin commercial operation in the first quarter of 2018. It is located in North Eleuthera and will serve approximately 7,500 residents.

As part of the BOO arrangement, GE will handle the equipment installation to startup operations, as well as maintenance, repair and troubleshooting.

Cyprian Gibson, assistant general manager - family islands, Water and Sewerage Corporation Bahamas, said: “This latest seawater desalination plant in Eleuthera, the fourth by GE on the island, will bring much needed freshwater to our residents.”
