URISA awards PlanGraphics Inc. professionals at annual conference

Two PlanGraphics Inc. employees were recently presented with awards from the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association's (URISA).


Frankfort, KY, November 14, 2002 -- PlanGraphics Inc., Senior Vice President Mike Kevany was presented with the Horwood Distinguished Service Award, and Executive Consultant Jim Hall was presented with the Friend of Australasian URISA (AURISA) Award at the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association's (URISA) recent 40th Anniversary Conference.

The Horwood Distinguished Service Award, named after URISA's founding member and first President Edgar Horwood, is an occasional award given for long-term service to URISA and the profession. Kevany was instrumental in the formation of URISA and has participated in URISA in a variety of roles from committee chairman, to founding member of chapters, to Board member, to specialty conference committee member and most recently Senior Chair of URISA's annual addressing conference, the Street Smart Conference.

AURISA President Malcolm Ryan presented Jim Hall with his award given in appreciation for Hall's speaking tour of Australia and New Zealand last year. The tour was sponsored by AURISA and included 18 presentations that were focused on raising awareness of the value of GIS technology and resources in helping governments respond to emergencies, with a special focus on the activity post-9/11 in New York City. AURISA also presented a check for the tour profits, which will be donated to the Twin Towers Fund.

Founded in 1963, URISA is a nonprofit association for professionals involved in improving urban and regional environments through the use of information technology.
