SANTA ANA, Calif., Nov. 5, 2002 -- Utility billing and resident care services provider, National Water & Power will work with an apartment management organization to implement water usage billing for more than 11,000 of the company's units.

With 65 properties in five states, The Kamson Corporation has nearly 45,000 residents who depend on the efficiency of its operations. Identifying and eliminating inefficiencies that may exist across Kamson's more than 13,000 units in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania can save the company hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"The Kamson Corporation is dedicated to providing high quality, affordable housing and to do so, we need to manage costs wisely," said Jeff Kurtz, president of The Kamson Corporation. "Outsourcing our water billing and collections to National Water & Power not only helps us monitor consumption and efficiency on our properties, it also frees up our staff to concentrate on maintaining and improving the quality of life for our residents."

National Water & Power will incorporate RUBS (Ratio Utility Billing Systems) across Kamson's properties to measure and allocate water consumption to individual units. National Water & Power will handle billing, vacancy monitoring and collections for the properties.

"We're excited to begin work with The Kamson Corporation and help improve water consumption and reduce costs across their properties," said Bob Wolpert, National Water & Power's president. "With our vast regulatory expertise and experience nationally with multi-state portfolios, we're perfectly suited to help property owners such as Kamson navigate regulatory compliance in each state and provide accurate billing services for each property."

Kamson made the decision to outsource the water measurement and billing process to National Water & Power in a drive to increase efficiencies on its properties, as well as encourage conservation of water.

According to the National Apartment Association and the National Multi Housing Council, residents who pay for their water use consume 6 to 39 percent less water than those whose water costs are included in their rent. If the 25 million apartment units in the U.S. implemented submetering of water consumption, 225 million to 1.4 billion gallons of water could be saved each day, saving owners and residents $500 million to $3 billion annually.
