Fort Washington, Pa., September 24, 2002 -- The city of Alamogordo, N.M. has awarded an eight-year contract to Severn Trent Services for the operation of the city's water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Alamogordo is a community with a population of 35,000 residents. The contract is valued at $1.42 million the first year.
The contract covers the maintenance and operations of the city's water treatment plant with a capacity of 10 million gallons per day, the wastewater treatment facility with a capacity of 4 million gallons per day, 10 water wells and 65 mountain springs.
Additionally, Severn Trent will operate and maintain 180,000 linear feet of raw water transmission lines and 23 miles of transmission lines to the city's water storage tanks. Treated discharge from the wastewater treatment facility will be re-used to provide irrigation to the city's parks, esplanades and a local golf course.
